Happy Saturday!
It’s starting to feel like spring here in Baltimore! There have been a couple of warm days, the birds are chirping, and I’m feeling that new life energy! Do you feel that way when the weather starts to warm up?
Forget New Year’s, spring is (in my humble opinion) the time to get things started! You are feeling energetic and motivated! It’s the time of year you want to deep clean and declutter; open the windows to let in fresh air, and get outside and move!
The changing of the season can inspire us to take charge of our health. THIS is the time of year to set goals, build new healthy habits, and make movement a priority! Use the energy and momentum that spring vibes bring to catapult you forward toward a healthier lifestyle.
Here are 5 tips on how to spring clean your lifestyle:
- Eat fresh things – As the weather warms I find I crave heavy comfort food less and light fresh produce based meals more frequently. Find new recipes that showcase fresh fruits and vegetables with light, bright flavors! Healthy food does not have to be bland or unappetizing. With a little research and experimentation you can find a few fresh delicious dishes to add into your regular
rotation! Check out these websites for some inspiration:
- Get outside and MOVE! – Sunshine, fresh air and warm breezes are invigorating after months huddled inside under blankets. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of being cooped up and ready to get outside! It’s common to associate exercise with going to the gym, but let’s think outside the box! There are so many fun ways to take your workout outside!
- Grab a good friend and catch up while taking a long walk.
- Hike a mountain. Ride your bike with your kids.
- Head to the local park with your friends and family for a game of soccer, softball/whiffle ball, tag, kickball, or any other fun playground game you played as a kid.
- Take your workout outside
- Drink your water – Hydration is a key component for optimal health. As you move into warmer months and become more active it’s important to stay hydrated. Keep a bottle with you at all times. If you struggle to remember to drink download an app or set an alarm on your phone to remind you to keep sipping throughout the day!
- Clear your mind – Spring cleaning can also include your mind and soul. Set aside some time for introspection. Confront your fears and work through any problems you may have been avoiding. Journaling and meditation are excellent tools for navigating difficult thoughts and emotions and finding clarity. If you feel like you may need additional support I recommend finding a
therapist or life coach to counsel you through deeper problems. Initially you may find life becomes more difficult as you unpack your issues and begin to work through them, but it is well worth the time and effort.
- Set new goals - I love goal setting! Having an objective to work toward can help you focus your energy constructively but you can’t stop there. Having goals is great but having a plan of attack is better. Goals can often seem insurmountable, but if you take the outcome you desire and break it down into smaller easy to achieve steps you can reduce the
anxiety and fear you may feel about your ability to succeed. Don’t forget to celebrate each small success on your way to the top. These wins help to keep you motivated to continue moving forward.
Spring is a beautiful time of year. This season is a reminder that there is always the opportunity for new beginnings and growth. While the results may not be immediate, in a few short seasons with patience and consistency, you will be able to reap the benefits of all your hard work.
